Great is God’s power. God stretches the heavens like a tent,
sets the earth on firm foundations, and covers the waters of the deep. We long
for a taste of this power, unless we get caught in the whirlwind like Job. We long to possess this power, but Christ
reminds us that true power is found in service.
To embrace Christ’s glory and sit at his right hand is to hang with
thieves, to dine with sinners, to serve tirelessly. Job was a faithful follower of his God, yet
was not spared calamity. Christ’s
disciples are invited to drink the cup that Jesus drank and to be baptized into
his suffering and death. And we wonder
why more people do not flock to churches that truly preach the gospel. Yet this is our road and the nature of true
power. And when we follow in Christ’s steps,
serve with generosity, live with kindness, walk with humility, care with
compassion, and serve in Christ’s name, God draws us to Christ’s side and
clothes us with the greatest power and glory of all – the power and glory of
love.
